Department Theta – a Polish spy thriller of NATO, Russia, political intrigue, and information warfare
The Russians uncover an old Western conspiracy. Poland may be forced to pay the ultimate price.
“Department Theta” is a Polish spy thriller by Adam Podkowa, set against the threats shaping today’s world: Russian influence operations, covert NATO structures, information warfare, intelligence operations, and political manipulation. It is a novel about a war that begins not with a gunshot, but with fear, chaos, and decisions made behind closed doors.
If you enjoy novels about intelligence agencies, covert operations, political power games, Russian influence, and scenarios that feel dangerously close to reality, this book is for you.
What is "Department Theta" about?
The psychological weapon the West once used to dismantle the Eastern Bloc was meant to remain hidden. Officially, it never existed. It left no trace and required no missiles, tanks, or open warfare.
But the Russians are beginning to understand what really happened at the end of the twentieth century.
Russia’s rebuilt intelligence services discover that NATO countries may be protected by secret defensive units known as Theta Departments. Each member state has its own cell, tasked with shielding the nation’s most important figures from mental attacks, manipulation, and outside influence.
In Poland, Department Theta operates in the shadows of the counterintelligence service. Its mission sounds simple enough: protect the President of Poland and safeguard national security.
Meanwhile, the Russians are preparing an operation that could strike not only Poland, but NATO as a whole.
Their objective is not a conventional assassination. They intend to exploit human ambition, political passions, internal divisions, and the hunger for power. If the operation succeeds, Poland could become a tool in someone else’s hands — and Europe may wake up to an entirely new reality.
Who is this book for?
“Department Theta” will appeal to readers who enjoy:
- Polish spy thrillers,
- political thrillers and political fiction,
- stories about intelligence agencies and secret services,
- intrigue involving NATO, Russia, and Central Europe,
- books about manipulation, influence, and behind-the-scenes struggles for power,
- scenarios that seem like fiction—until you start looking at the world a little more closely.
This is a novel for readers who want more than car chases and gunfire from a thriller—those drawn to political tension, psychology, covert structures, and one unsettling question: who is really making the decisions that change history?
Why is it worth reading?
Because “Department Theta” combines a classic spy thriller with political intrigue rooted in the anxieties of the modern world.
Here, Russia does not rely on brute force alone. It works patiently and quietly—through people, emotions, decisions, and the weaknesses of the system. The most dangerous weapon does not have to be visible. Sometimes all it takes is to plant the right thought, ambition, or fear.
It is a thriller about how easily a state can be destabilized once its hidden fractures are exposed.
Themes of the Novel

Russian revenge, intelligence services, NATO, Polish counterintelligence, the struggle for influence, political manipulation, mental attacks, a secret psychological weapon, populism, covert operations, the President of Poland, national security, and the question of whether modern warfare still has to look like war.
If this is the kind of science fiction you enjoy…
Reach for “Department Theta” if you are drawn to stories where politics, intelligence agencies, and international power games generate more tension than open conflict.
This is a novel for readers who enjoy fiction that feels uncomfortably close to something that could actually happen.

Tytułowy Departament to tajny i elitarny oddział kontrwywiadu polskiego chroniącego pierwszego obywatela przed dezinformacją, manipulacją.
Atmosfera gęstnieje, napięcie i ciekawość sięgają zenitu, błyskotliwe i plastyczne dialogi stanowią kolejną wartość opowieści.
